* Find someone that you feel totally comfortable with. This is so important because as you need to be able to discuss your ideas and feel able to say if you don’t like anything as the design progresses.

* Make sure that you give the Designer all the information about your likes and dislikes. If your jewellery is to be worn at a special function, don’t forget to let them know what you will be wearing.

* Choose someone that will give you enough attention and time and ensure that you get a quote. Don’t forget though, that should you keep changing your mind that it would be reasonable for the Designer to charge extra.

* Always try on the jewellery before you pay and should the piece require any alteration, i.e., necklace length, a good Designer will get that done at no extra charge, As long as your request is reasonable!

  * Word of mouth recommendations are always worth following up.

Most of all enjoy and prepare yourself for all the ‘oohs’ and ‘ahhs’ that you will recieve when you wear your jewellery!
