How to choose your wedding tiara. I’ve been making and designing Wedding Tiaras, Crowns, crystal bouquets and maching bridal jewellery for nearly eight years and I've put pen to paper and writen down a few points that I thought might come in useful when you are choosing your bridal jewellery.

The first question that I always ask my brides actually has nothing to do with Tiaras at all; it’s ‘have you chosen your dress yet?’ The dress is going to be your major purchase and this should always be your starting point. Because like anything else you can have an idea in mind but this might go out of the window once you start trying outfits on! It’s often difficult to know exactly what will suit us beforehand, let’s be honest, how many times do you wear a posh frock, let alone a full wedding dress!
So, once that’s all organised and you’ve decided on your colour scheme, then you can move onto your jewellery. Here are a few things to consider:

*The style of your dress. If it’s a very simple design, then you have a choice of adding more ‘dressy’ jewellery or keeping the whole outfit simple.

*If you decide that you would like your jewellery to have that ‘wow’ ‘one off’ factor, then would you prefer to have a more elaborate tiara or crown and go for simpler matching jewellery, or to have more elaborate jewellery and have a simple headdress. Be wary of having an elaborate tiara and necklace, some people can carry this off but there’s always a chance of ending up looking like a fairy queen!

* Do you want to be able to wear your jewellery after your big day? Think about this because this will affect the kind of design that you can go for. At Kal’s Return, I have on many occasions made an elaborate necklace for the day and then simplified the design so that you can wear it afterwards.

* How are you having your hair styled? How high do you wish to have your tiara made? A good overall height is around 2 to 2.5” This gives you height and isn’t too overpowering. If you have set your heart on having a Crown made, check with your hairdresser first! Can they fit them for you if they are doing your hair on the day? I have had a couple of occasions when disaster could have struck because a hairdresser didn’t know to dress the hair for a crown.

* When you think about colours, think about your skin tone. If you are pale skinned, then gemstones such as Rose Quartz can make you look a little washed out.

* If you decide to match the colours in your tiara with those of your accessories and bridesmaid dresses, go for a very close match or for a bold contrast in colour. Some colours can be hard to find an exact match so a contrast looks better, otherwise it can look as if you’ve got dressed by accident.

*If you are having a tiara made to measure, do you have embroidery on your dress? A really nice
idea that I’ve done many times is to take the pattern from your dress, simplify it and create the design of the tiara from this. However, a word of caution, this takes leap of faith with your jewellery designer!

So, there are a few things for you to think about. The above is not an exhaustive list but rather a starting point. If You would like to talk about having a tiara made for you, please don't hesitate to contact me by email:
